DEM Parameter Calibration of Maize Seeds and the Effect of Rolling Friction

A set of suitable parameter values is crucial in discrete element method (DEM) simulations. As a non-spherical particle, the coefficients rolling friction between maize seed particles and boundary are hard to measure directly must be obtained by calibration. In this paper, taking three representative varieties as research objects, necessity for accurate calibration boundaries investigated. Subsequently, studying sensitivity angle repose test, methods used calibrate determined. It can seen from results that have significant influence on test results, so these two parameters accurately calibrated. Additionally, coefficient has no effect piling angle, but highly sensitive particles. By comparing simulation experimental lifting cylinder “self-flow screening” tests, calibrated were found valid.
